30 July 2026
Event Body

The ACRS Local Government Network warmly invites you to attend our August meeting: Community Action for Safer Speeds Project.

The George Institute for Global Health partnered with seven LGAs in NSW to implement the Community Action for Safer Speeds (CASS) project from 2024-2026. Funded by the National Road Safety Action Grants Program, this work aimed to use a novel participatory research methodology (community jury) to develop and deliver locally tailored, community-driven interventions targeting increased acceptance of and demand for safer speeds. Five LGAs served as experimental locations where community juries were held, resulting in a list of recommendations for LGA consideration. Each of the five LGAs used these ideas to design and implement a safe speed intervention. Two additional LGAs served as control locations. Final outcomes based on any changes in community attitudes and travel speeds will be available in early 2027.

MEETING AIMS:

1. Briefly outline the community jury process;

2. Describe the safe speed interventions developed and implemented in five LGAs;

3. Describe levels of community engagement with the interventions – Road Safety Officers from participating LGAs will discuss levels of engagement and acceptance across their community and LGA teams.
